Veterinary forensic pathology plays a crucial role in animal death investigations. Recent years have seen increased attention given to this field Taiwan. Here we report grave crime that aroused public indignation Taiwan, when December 2015, missing free-roaming cat was allegedly strangled by suspect, according witnesses. Surveillance video footage of the cruel incident surfaced showed cat, without visible signs struggle, both hands suspect and kicked abdomen’s left side. The body stored travel bag found suspect’s motorcycle trunk three days after had been missing. radiographs revealed suspected luxation cervical vertebrae 6 7 (C6–C7). At necropsy histopathology, neck compression with subcutaneous hemorrhage at submandibular area, bruising neck, tears wall external jugular vein, pulmonary lesions were identified, all consistent asphyxiation. Hemorrhages epidural space C7 vertebra, spinal nerve level C7, surrounding soft tissues noted. pathological findings line confession, witnesses’ statements, footage. process outcome case reflected society’s growing awareness welfare authorities are giving crimes against animals link between pathologic crime.
